“exceptional clarity” 2010-05-29
By T R Messer (S W Coast, Fl.)
Even after a month I am still amazed at the clarity and vivid colors, easy to use remote. The only down side is the speaker system on the set. Don’t even bother, it needs an amplifier or other surround system. Definately worth the money spent.
“Definitely a great TV” 2010-05-28
By Mark (DC Metro)
I research for 3 months for a new tv and after checking out all of the TVs for myself and reading all of the review this TV made the most sense for the money and what I needed. I have a 6.1 sound system xbox 360, PS3, HD DVR and everything runs through my receiver via HDMI. This TV has a great picture and provides many options. I would suggest if you calibrate it you custom your 120 b/c it makes it look soap opera like. If you calibrate it right it gives you a clean finish like a plasma. The only things is it does get a little blury at times when watching sports, but then you can turn it back on. Also it has an automatic drop to 24 hz when watching bluray which is its native resolution. This gives you a much cleaner look. All in all I am very happy with my buy…and I am a very picky shopper. The only thing I don’t like the fact that you have to pay extra for the wireless internet adapter….which I don’t even use that much b/c they don’t offer Netflix. Hope this helped…
“Awesome” 2010-05-27
By K. Thompson (South New Jersey)
It’s a great TV. I just can’t think of anything negative to say. There are features to nitpick and complain about but those are minor issues and this is not the top of the line TV so obviously it won’t have all the bells and whistles. Picture quality is awesome. The only slight issue I have noticed is that when the picture goes to a black screen you will see the uneven lighting of the Led backlight coming unevenly and awkwardly from the edges of the screen. Also IMO 120 Hz feature is a gimmick. But overall there is nothing to complain about. Available connections are Awesome. One thing that I find annoying is having to dive into menus and submenus to get to features that should either be on the remote or should but in the main menu instead of having to press several clicks on the remote to get to.
“Very Impressed” 2010-04-30
By FoReigNeR
I love this tv. Blu-rays, HD satellite and video games look great. Had to buy a separate wireless enabler costing 80 bucks because my router was too far. I don’t use the internet option much but I’ve tried streaming movies from Amazon and Blockbuster with no problems. The PC link is great too. You must load the “PC share” CD and install to you windows OS in order to make it compatible. Screen looks great. Pictures come to life. Luckily, I’ve not experienced the problems of many reviewers here.
The tv gets used about 8 hours a day, every day. 5 months later, everything still works fantastic. I especially love the usb port to allow me to share pics and vids onto the huge screen when company is over. The only minor complaint is that the tv isn’t the sturdiest thing on the base. With about 6 connections on one side of the tv, it tends to slightly lean in that direction. No biggie, but still slightly noticeable. I won’t deduct a star for it. Maybe I can place a few legos to prop it up evenly.
Friends and family love the tv too. My house has now become “the place to be” when big sporting events and pay-per-view fights are happening. Although the low power consumption saves me money, I now spend a fortune on chips and dips.
“light from corners and problems with dark scenes” 2010-04-20
By C. Cote (Pineville, NC)
this is a beautiful and thin tv. the picture looks great most of the time. the edge led system ruins this tv for me though. every so often i notice that there is light coming from the corners. this really irritates me. also, on darker scenes from movies/tv, the backlight sometimes turns way down. when the scene changes the backlight turns back up. there is no consistency when it comes to dark scenes with this model. i couldn’t fix this without making the picture quality suffer. i’m not an expert with television settings either. i returned this one for the LG lh90. the lg doesn’t use edge led system. very pleased with the LG.

“Awesome!” 2010-05-21
By J. L. Winkfein (Dallas, Texas)
Bought this LED TV to replace an older 50″ Toshiba rear projection. I thought that the Toshiba had a good picture. Absolutely no comparison. This LED is totally phenominal. Great picture and great features. I have heard some reviewers complain about glare, but I have mine in my living area that has multiple windows. I can not see any glare from any angle. And this TV has a wider viewing angle than my older rear projection TV.
I am completely satisfied at this point and the only complaint that I can make is that you have to purchase the wi-fi dongle seperatly. With what this thing costs, Samsung should have included it in the package. I did purchase mine through Amazon here, so as soon as I get it I can start streaming Netflix videos.
Recommend this TV 100% for anyone looking to upgrade.
“Going from CRT to This…WOW!” 2010-05-16
By Gregory Hendricks (San Antonio, TX)
I can’t think of much about which to criticize this television. The picture quality is fantastic. Use HD cable, Blu-ray, or DVD, and you’ll be flabbergasted, especially if you’re moving from CRT to LCD like I was.
The TV speakers are simply passible; you’re likely going to use a Home Theater System if you’re in the market for a TV like this. I’m using it with a Yamaha RX-V467 receiver, Polk Audio SurroundBar, Polk Audio PSW10 Sub, Sony BDP-360 Blu-Ray, Pace HD Cable Box (Time Warner), and a Nintendo Wii. All look and sound great together.
Consumer Reports gave similar TVs low marks for viewing angle, but I think it’s fine (at least in my house); don’t know anyone who wants to watch a flatscreen TV at a 10-degree angle anyway. Make sure you turn on the Motion Plus and depth-of-black options to mitigate those issues, or you’ll notice some anomalies.
The remote is very easy to use; no issues at all. Only controls the television (and maybe other HDMI-CEC components attached). Don’t view it as a universal remote…I bought the Logitech Harmony 300 remote, which works great with all my components.
The Internet and streaming functions NOW mostly work as advertised by Samsung, including Netflix. Netflix did not work at first (it’s a new television in 2010), but a recent firmware fix in May 2010 alleviated that annoying issue. I use the Samsung WiFi adapter to connect to our home network (Apple Airport Extreme). No problems watching HD movies via Netflix.
Negatives:
If you unplug the television for any reason or lose power, you’ll lose most of your settings and need to enter most of them again. This includes reactivating the motion controls and depth-of-black settings (very important for an LCD television).
Needs a Samsung wireless adapter for WiFi Internet ($79). Works great, but it also takes up one of your two USB ports! Still can’t get my account Favorites on YouTube…keeps throwing up an error. All the other Internet “apps” I’ve tried work fine, though, including Netflix (after the May 2010 firmware fix). Does not feed the Internet connection to other components via HDMI (so it’s HDMI 1.3). Too bad. You’ll need a separate connection for your Blu-Ray (for BD Live and other updates) or other Internet-savvy components.
Don’t know if this TV supports audio return channel via HDMI; I haven’t tried it. For audio from Internet apps, I simply made a TOSLINK connection back to my Yamaha receiver. Perfect! You could also just use the audio from the television (again…passible; spring for the TOSLINK cable).
HDMI for Blu-Ray works great! HDMI for the Pace Cable Box…not so much (constant “blinking” for about 20-30 seconds when changing channels), but this may be the fault of the receiver or cable box.
“Best I’ve ever owned, picture really grabs you” 2010-05-07
By John in OC (Lake Forest, CA)
we already had 4 HDTVs when I bought this one on 5/2/10- Sony 46″, Sharp Aquos 65″, Samsung Touch of Color 52″, and Panasonic plasma 58″. All but the Sony are less than 2 years old- and all look good. But that Samsung Touch of Color really stood out. The picture has always been a real step above the others. So, we went to Best Buy to look at the latest Samaungs, and ended up buying this one.
I have never seen a picture like it. It looks 3 dimensional- you can really place people and scenery in space. It’s almost eerie. Another reviewer has complained of flash lighting- but I can’t see any evidence of it. Plus the thing is energy efficient- 190w max- less when back lighting is down (which everyone will turn down I’d expect- it’s very bright). It’s better at not reflecting light than plasmas for sure- another plus- and looks great when the room is brightly lit. It’s quiet when on- no “buzz”- and it’s relatively cool.
I’ve (unfortunately) sent back large TVs in the past- including a 65″ (which Amazon was great about). I couldn’t be happier with this one- so far at least.
*edited 5/8/10- netflix streaming nor Blockbuster streaming worked initially- but a firmware release in early May corrected this. Apps work fine- and VuDu works great and streams in 1080p/24 with Dolby Digital sound anyway- so it’s a better source for great looking content. Currently Netflix still sends only stereo (dolby prologic II) audio…
“Black scenes terrible” 2010-04-21
By D. Mello
Prior to making this purchase I read varying reviews about the Samsung LED TVs lighting quality in dark scenes. I thought these people were being too picky given there were seemingly just as many people completely happy. In addition, I looked at similar models in stores and they looked great. I ordered this set from Amazon hoping for the best, but unfortunately the lighting on dark scenes is extremely bad.
There are clouds of varying brightness in the dark areas of a scene (some refer to it as flashlighting or searchlights). These are most noticeable in the corners especially at an angle. It is extremely distracting when watching letterbox content or dark movies. It was not noticeable at all when watching brightly lit TV content or the demo content in the stores I went to. This is an SN01 panel running the latest firmware.
My older model CCFL lit LCD TV from Samsung did not have this kind of an issue. I’m really upset by this purchase and can’t believe Samsung finds this quality acceptable.
On a positive note, the TV arrived in great condition from Amazon’s carrier.
“Awesome TV worth every penny” 2010-04-16
By J. Ramamoorthy (Seattle, WA USA)
I own this TV. Just one word – its amazing. The picture quality is divine it almost looks 3d. Everything is so life like. I compared this TV in the store with others and found it significantly better than the Sony’s, LG’s and Panasonic’s. Did I mention it is thin, that’s the second wow factor. The remote is easy to use, I however use it with my Logitech Harmony remote.
All games on the Xbox 360 come alive, the screen size and clarity really immerse you into the game. Cannot comment about the speakers since I don’t use them, I have an external 5.1 speakers. It has 4 hdmi ports, more than enough to connect all your inputs. It also has a VGA and component inputs. You can also connect it to the internet, this means Youtube, Netflix and other apps.
I did a comparison in the store between 120hz and 240hz and didn’t notice any difference.
So far no cons.
